Friday Favorites: Ballgown Bliss

By: Taylor Clark

Wishing you a very happy Friday and a happy (very) belated 4th! I hope your holiday was spent with lots of loved ones, summer fun, and American pride. This holiday has me thinking all about colonial fashion and how even centuries later, we’re still being influenced by those large and in-charge ballgowns. This week’s Friday Favorites is devoted to ballgowns. Designers like Hayley Paige and Stella York know how to modernize this feminine staple and create gowns that would have Martha Washington begging our first president to marry her all over again in the 21st century. So with all of that in mind, let’s enjoy some magnificently modern yet truly traditional wedding dresses together!

Stella York 5906

The sweetheart neckline and crisscross pleating of this bodice coupled with the thick waistband and full skirt are what I absolutely adore about this satin Stella York. It looks flattering on nearly every body type! Tiny details, such as hidden pockets and buttons all the way down the train, make this gown even more interesting. Elegant simplicity has never looked so stunning.

Hayley Paige "Lily"

Stars in our eyes and stripes on our dress, Lord have mercy, Lily is an American Dream! The classic sweetheart neckline ballgown takes a modern twist with this Hayley Paige, which features a horsehair striped skirt. Taffeta was meant to be shown off in this patriotic fashion.

Stella York 6309

The traditional shape of this Stella York paired with the jeweled illusion back perfectly blends sweet with sexy. The bodice is intricately beaded and flows into a tulle skirt that is breathable and gorgeous. Understated yet bold, this ballgown will leave a little sparkle in the eyes of your guests.

Blush by Hayley Paige "Opal"

Hayley Paige never fails to leave us in awe with her designs, and Opal is no exception.  It’s such a fun and imaginative ballgown. The blush and ivory organza is light and airy, which is contrary to what we would expect for a ballgown. The V-neckline and pink and alabaster opalescent belt add another layer of whimsy to this otherwise traditional style.

A ballgown is a classic choice that continues to become more and more modernized. Its charm is that, to quote Taylor Swift, it never goes out of style. So if you’re worried about finding a timeless wedding look, a ballgown may be the perfect fit for you.
