Hello friends! I have been just giddy to share this wedding ever since it happened! I chose to share it now that fall is here to hopefully inspire you with Rachel’s gorgeous sleeved gown. Rachel truly made a style statement with her gown and she looked like a goddess. Rachel and David tied the knot on Laguna Beach surrounded by their loved ones. We love her thoughts on marriage and we love that she incorporated a sleeved gown into a beach venue. We hope this couple’s story will inspire you! Can you give us a glimpse into you & your hubs's love story?
We met in high school right after he moved to Kentucky from California but we were just friends. He flirted with me in Spanish class but we ended up staying friends for a while through high school. We both went our separate ways after graduating and had other relationships but somehow found our way back to being really close friends once we both had bad breakups. We were literally best friends, hung out every single day and I never pictured anything more until he confessed his feelings for me, which had me shaken because I had recently gotten out of a bad relationship and didn’t really know if I wanted to risk such a good friendship if things didn’t work out. After that, I saw him in a different light. I noticed things I never noticed before and realized how much he truly cared for me. We became a couple and have gotten stronger and stronger since that day. We moved in with each other pretty quickly and were inseparable. He was still my best friend but also my lover and I knew this relationship was different than any other relationship I had been in because we started off as friends, got to know so much about each other then decided to take it to the next level. We have now been together for almost 6 years! We got engaged October 22, 2015 after 3 years of loving each other through thick and thin and then chose to get married 2 years later on May 4, 2017, which was exactly 5 years from the day we became boyfriend and girlfriend. So we definitely took our time making sure we were both ready for a lifelong commitment and we were! We chose to get married in California because we both wanted a beach wedding and I had never been there before, plus what better place than the place he grew up! I got to see where he was raised and where he had so many memories before moving to Kentucky. It kind of tied it all together for us. Our closest family came and got to be apart of our special day which meant a lot to both of us! We both wanted a small, simple but beautiful ceremony and that’s exactly what we did! The next day we headed off to Tahiti for our honey moon where we relaxed and enjoyed each other to the fullest. We even tried for a baby, which we found out weeks later that it worked and I was pregnant! Now we have a baby girl! Little did we know, our lives were just beginning!
What was it about your dress that made you realize it was "the one?"
I knew I wanted something different and I obviously had a Pinterest board with millions of dresses saved! I didn’t have to try on many before I knew that dress was the one! It was super bohemian style, low cut, full of lace and had long sleeves, which I loved! It was form fitting, which I never thought I would’ve picked but I’m glad I did because it wasn’t typical and I’m anything but typical so I knew it fit my personality perfectly. I brought my mom with me because her opinion and approval was the only one I needed to hear once I picked out my dream dress! I loved sharing that special moment with her because for me it’s once in a lifetime and I’m her only daughter, so I knew it would be just as special to her.
What is your favorite memory from your wedding day?
My favorite memory from my wedding day was saying “I do” to the man of my dreams. Marriage means so much to both of us and that moment was magical. A simple ceremony with our family surrounding us at the most beautiful location, it was perfect.
What has been the best thing about marriage so far?
The best thing about being married so far is being able to say we’re married. We can truly say that nothing changed except our title (and growing our family by 1) and that’s how it should be. Our bond has only gotten stronger since saying our vows to each other and to God.
Any pieces of wisdom or advice you'd like to share with future brides, engaged gals, or newlyweds like yourself?
Some advice I would give to newly weds is never go to bed angry and always communicate with each other no matter what! Marriage is about compromise and trust. And remember, that is your person through thick and thin.
